Hi all, im looking to write a program to interface with the betrair api to auto track odds movement. Any advice on whats best to go for assuming i have zero knowledge

All prejudices aside: the best language is the one you know, that you can get the job done with the least amount of effort on your part. Learning a new language tends to be more effort than doing it in just about any other language (aside from, say, writing in pure x86 assembly).

If you don't know any languages you can get it done in, Python, Ruby, and Perl all seem to be fairly popular for this kind of one-off calling-a-web-api sort of thing -- mostly because they all have two major features: relaxed type system, and giant sets of easily-installable ready-to-use libraries.

Thanks for the inputs chaps. May give python a try (as its free and I can pester Ichabod about it!)

Other than that I was thinking of looking at Java as it seems to have useful applications in the grander scheme of things.
