Designing a team for the rumble match, it's difficult sad.gif

I haven't yet made enough progress to know whether it's very difficult, exceedingly difficult, or nigh on impossible, but it's certainly difficult.

Whilst not abandoning plan A, I was beginning to suspect that it may be sensible to have plan B in place first. Unfortunately it's quickly become apparent that plan B will be difficult. sad.gif

Other than making sure your robots dont run into each other all your team really has to do is know not to shoot at fellow memebers. Either by radio comm or by some simple recognition like not shooting robots that are pointing in the same direction as them.

Hopefully this might get you started smile.gif

This reminds me of my design notes:

"Shooting robots on my own team is bad. Crashing into robots on my own team is also bad."

Getting it to work as I want, well, it's difficult. sad.gif

Well the former problem is solved through
RSL
_Dtcteamid
, and the latter is solved through an AT-fieldAT Field, which thrasybulus has upgraded from my original design.

But those problems are just the first step. Essentially all I'm doing is designing robots that are very efficient dog fighters, then adding in a quite ingenious teamworking concept, and let them go at it. So even If I don't finish, I'l have a good start on my next dog fighter.

Good luck to you .

Hmmm. If only not shooting yourself was as easy as you people suggest!

Of course, the ideal sollution requires your own robots to never share the same location as any of your own missiles (regardless of who those missiles were aimed at initially). Damn, did I mention I was finding it difficult. sad.gif

I looked at the AT Field thing earlier, when thinking about the collision evasion. I was thinking of something similar, but am now more likely to return to plan A; a coordinated strategy hopefully with no chance of collisions once my robots have got into place.

* * * *

Getting my robot's to behave as I want, without the hassle of an opposing team is a struggle. I'm not convinced that it'll get any easier once I start testing with enemy robot's included.

I'll get there in the end, but won't know where 'there' is until the end. smile.gif

Your right. It is difficult. I've only ever made 1v1 robots, so this is a serious challenge! What names have you got for your teams? Ive got a really good one: Rumble Bees devil.gif

For naming I was considering using an array of verbs and an array of names / nouns to randomly assign names to my team members each match.

e.g.

RSL

FirstName[0] = "Little Green"
FirstName[1] = "Furious"
FirstName[2] = "Whirling"

LastName[0] = "Isaac"
LastName[1] = "Persephone"
LastName[2] = "Elephant"

getrandom (2)
fni = _result

getrandom (2)
lni = _result

name(FirstName[fni] + " " + LastName[lni])

This would only be run during the first game of each match. The example given above could return:

Little Green Isaac
Furious Isaac
Whirling Isaac
:
:
:
:
Whirling Elephant

amongst it's results.

However this is rather pointless and I've since had to abandon it for a secret reason!

Lol, My bot hasn't even fire a shot yet, let alone test played a match. I'm still perfecting every component to its behaviour, but i'm running out of time. I haven't even thought of a name yet! laugh.gif

Heck The only thing I have finished completely is soem ASCII artwork of the power symbol for the Init Section.

My new main plan involves desperately hoping that everyone else's entries are as unfinished as mine, come July 30th. wink.gif

I've been following this thread. Eldrich, you are quite an amusing individual. I mean that in a good way. Humor is probably the best asset we have in this game. If we make it like work then it's not a game anymore, it's, well it's work. blink.gif

Anyway, the not shooting at you teamate (intentionaly) and not running into them is a good start. However, it's a rumble, so your robots WILL run into eachothers missiles. I don't think there is a viable way of avoiding this, unless you assign them to certain points of the arena and have them scan only specific areas...getting them to those points (whilst battling) would be the challenge.

Anyway, if you are getting a headache over this, you can blame me. The match idea was introduced by me a few months back. innocent.gif I only hope I can do as well as I think I will. (Haven't really been coding on it yet, still trying to finish up the barcode project. I may start on it about a week before the match. I have a shell of a team, but needs much fine tuning)

Surely, it's as simple as _dtcteamid != _teamid? Offical teams are on.

Unless you mean after it has been fired. wink.gif
