Energy missiles are fired by robots using the fire command. All missiles have the same dimensions and move at a constant speed. When a missile collides with a robot, the amount of energy contained in the missile is subtracted from that robot. When a missile collides with a bonus cookie or a mine, both the missile and cookie or mine are destroyed. When two missiles collide, each missile loses energy equal to the other missile's energy value. If a missile's energy is reduced to zero in a collision, it is destroyed.

Missile Size

A missile's size is defined by an upright square measuring 3 x 3 units. You can see the boundaries of missiles in the game by opening the Settings Window, then click the Animation/Sound tab, and checking "Collision Boxes". When a missile collides with a wall, cookie, mine or reaches its maximum range it explodes. An exploding missile can still damage a robot that runs into it. While missile explosions are larger than 3 x 3 units, only the center hotspot of 3 x 3 causes damage.

Movement

Missiles move at a constant speed. When a new match is created, the speed of missiles can be set to either fast or slow. In slow mode, missiles receive a small speed boost during their first turn to prevent moving robots from colliding with their own missiles. This table shows a missile's lateral movement speed with each setting. Movement is measured in units per turn.

  Speed Speed Boost
Slow Missiles 28 9.5
Fast Missiles 44 0

Energy Damage

When a missile is fired, the amount of energy passed to the fire command is removed from the firing robot's energy reserves. A missile's initial energy is 4 times the amount of energy passed to the fire command. As a missile travels it looses 1 energy for every 45 units moved. No matter how far a missile travels, however, its energy will not go below 4. The table below shows minimum and maximum damage potentials for missiles.

  Energy Collision Total Damage
Maximum 28     (7*4) 1 29
Minimum 4       (1*4) 1 5

When a missile collides with either a cookie or mine, the cookie or mine is always destroyed.

Range

The maximum distance missiles can travel before exploding is set for each match using the New Match window. Valid settings for missile range are from 25 to 2,000,000,000. When a missile reaches the maximum range, it explodes the same way a missile explodes when it collides with a wall.
